ABOUT THE WORK

I APPROACH MOVEMENT AS A WAY TO RESEARCH AND GAIN A BETTER PERCEPTION OF THE WORLD WE LIVE IN.  HOW OUR BODIES HOLD MEMORIES THAT INFLUENCE OUR PERSPECTIVE OF FELT EXPERIENCE ARE ALSO CENTRAL THEMES IN MY WORK.  I AM INTERESTED IN THE PROCESS OF DECOMPOSITION; PRESENTING STRUCTURE JUST TO WATCH IT FALL APART, USING MOVEMENT AS A WAY TO MANIFEST NEW FORMS OR WAYS OF BEING.  THE WORK I CREATE IS DEEPLY INVESTED IN THE PRACTICE OF EMBODIMENT AND SHARED EXPERIENCE WITHIN RELATIONSHIP STRUCTURES.  THROUGH PERFORMANCE, I AIM TO DISRUPT THE PROSCENIUM STRUCTURE BETWEEN AUDIENCE AND PERFORMER, REACHING FOR A MORE VISCERAL REACTION FROM THE WITNESS PERSPECTIVE.  I OFTEN USE ALTERNATIVE SPACES, GALLERIES, OR BLACK BOX THEATERS INSTEAD OF PROSCENIUM SETTINGS, FINDING THAT THE WORK IS BEST EXPERIENCED UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, ALLOWING THE AUDIENCE TO MOVE THROUGH THE WORK WITH US. I AM CURRENTLY exploring DANCE FILM AND HOW MY WORK TRANSLATES ONTO THE SCREEN.

I AM INVESTED IN THE COLLABORATIVE PROCESS, ALWAYS ANTICIPATING THE POSSIBILITIES THAT ARISE THROUGH IMPROVISATION AND INTIMATE CONVERSATIONS, REACHING FOR A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF OUR BODIES AND THEIR LIMITATIONS AND COMPLEXITIES WITHIN THE WORK.  WITH MY COLLABORATORS STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES IN MIND, I SEEK TO MAKE THE AUTHENTIC VISIBLE, ALLOWING MY COLLABORATORS TO EMBODY THE MOVEMENT IN THE WAY THAT FEELS NATURAL TO THEM. I ENJOY BEING BEHIND THE SCENES, ALMOST NEVER PARTICIPATING AS A PERFORMER, BUT AS A VIEWER, HELPING SHAPE THE WORK INTO THE BEING THAT IT BECOMES.
