MOONs and OCEANs

Moons and Oceans is a contemporary dance work created collaboratively with dancers from Charlotte, NC. Themes of insulation, the influence of tradition on the body, and navigating desire are explored, discovering a deeper understanding of our histories and the performative act of self. Inspired by the book, Dive Dark, Dream Slow by Melissa Catanese, this work presents our research on female relationships and the many ways women can support each other while hovering on the verge of transformation.

The work’s technical excellence and choreographic inventiveness is made all the more beautiful by the whiff of corruption that hangs over it. As the piece develops, an undercurrent of cruel complicity emerges, as the four performers are entangled in a game of status and desire. The internal logic of Moon and Ocean is uncompromising and magnetic, as seductive as it is unsettling.
